A Simple Life Lessons Template for Your Journal
Why a template helps
The hardest part of journaling is deciding what to write. A template removes that friction by giving you the same reliable questions every time. You spend your energy on thinking, not on formatting.
A good life lessons template has one goal: turn an experience into a lesson you can act on later. Keep it short enough to complete in a few minutes.
The four-part structure
What happened. Describe the event in one or two sentences, without judgment. Just the facts.
What did I learn. Distill the takeaway into a single sentence. If you cannot say it in one line, you have not found the lesson yet.
How did it feel. Note the emotion. Mood is data: over weeks it reveals what energizes you and what drains you.
What will I do differently. End with one concrete action. A lesson without a next step is just a thought.
Example entry
What happened: I missed a project deadline and had to tell the client.
What I learned: I underestimate tasks by about half. I need to buffer my estimates.
How it felt: Embarrassed, but relieved after being honest.
Next step: Add a 50% buffer to every time estimate this month and see how it goes.
Make it a system
A template only pays off if you can find entries later. Tag each entry with a category like Career, Relationship, or Health, and set a review date so the lesson comes back to you.
That is the model behind 90 Points Life: every entry follows this structure, gets categorized, and can resurface on a schedule. You can create a free account and use this exact template today.
